Watching the news this week we can see the employees have begun to feel the increasing effect of lockdown with many businesses including Airbus and the high street announcing mass redundancies.

Unemployment rates mounting, job markets decreasing a new implications on the way we work, we have been asked by our clients if we can offer support to employees now facing the job market.

There is no way to make devastating statistics like this appear positive.

With the unemployment statistics rising we can understand how many businesses are utilising the governments furlough system, however, this is due to end in the coming months and businesses are looking at ways to preserve their business and sadly sometimes redundancies are unavoidable.

How can employers support their staff while making this tough decision?

By providing individuals with a toolkit to work through personal hurdles and be able to approach the job market with the skills to confidently move to new pastures.

The term is coined Outplacement.

It’s a proactive service offered to employees to equip them with the skills they need as we are fast approaching the most Competitive job market that we have seen for decades.

This isn’t just about finding the employee a job, it’s about setting them up with a better focus regarding the next steps into the job market whilst maintaining morale for the organisations culture with the remaining work force by achieving positive outcomes with those exiting the business.

Outplacement can offer exiting employees key skills in establishing their personal brand, job searching, CV writing and successful interviewing by covering the whole process from start to finish. This can assist them in securing a new role as soon as possible and to give them the confidence to leave their current role in the strongest possible position. It is a changing climate so it is also important to offer support and signpost with experts in finance, mental health and well-being in what can be an incredibly stressful situation.

By supporting your employees you are immediately focusing on their careers rather than their frustration at being let go. It also substantially reduces the negative impact on your professional reputation in today’s climate of disgruntled employees who are often upset about redundancy and are and will complain to friends and family. They’re posting on social media and this can cause profound damage to your employees brand in the process. This can prove incredibly difficult when restarting business ventures once the market recovers and you wish to attract top talent.

Outplacement will give positive next steps to your exiting employees and give them the skills and passion to move forward in their career.
